This weekend, it’s time to celebrate a little bit of New York history.

Take a bike ride over to the Navy Yards’ BLDG 92 for the “Brooklyn Navy Yard: Past, Present and Future” exhibition which delves into the rich American history of the Navy Yards and describes the transformation into the manufacturing and green business facility it is today. Make sure to take the bike tour for a more in depth look at the changes made over the years. Afterwards, hop on the Vanderbilt bike lane to visit The Shelton on Lafayette for our Open House from 3-5.

On Sunday, head to the New York Transit Museum, to find out exactly how the subways work in the “ElectriCity” exhibit and catch the “Meet Miss Subways” exhibit, “a look at New York’s most iconic and democratic beauty contest.” After brushing up on your transit history, jump on the subway or bus and head to Prospect Heights to take a look at The Dean Lofts, some of our newest rentals. Open House Hours on Sunday are 11:30-1:30.

Uptown, The Bartow-Powell Mansion Museum is giving free guided tours of the grounds to celebrate Bronx Week on Sunday. Make sure to catch “The Age of Botanical Wonders, Illustrations from Transactions of the Horticultural Society of London, 1805–1829” on display in the museum’s library. After a thorough tour, head over to the Open House at Fieldston Lofts from 1-3 for a peek of this gorgeous new development in Riverdale.

This weekend is all about celebrating Moms.

On Saturday, stop by the Brooklyn Flea in Fort Greene to pick out that perfect gift for mom. With Vendors featuring antiques, clothes, paper goods and art work, you’re sure to find just the thing to make her feel loved. Enjoy a specialty snack at the food vendors and then take a quick trip up Lafayette to The Shelton, open house from 3-5, to take a peek at this gorgeous Penthouse unit with private cabana and spectacular views of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Or visit Dean St Lofts rentals at 818 Dean Street in Prospect Heights. Open House Hours will be 1-3pm.

On Sunday, bring mom to the Brooklyn Museum for brunch and a guided tour. If you and Mom are uptown, pick up some  of Yo-Burger’s delicious burgers, fries and fro-yo and take a picnic lunch to nearby Van Cortlandt Park. After a scenic stroll through the The John Kieran Nature Trail, hop out to our Fieldston Lofts Condo’s between 12-2 for an open house featuring units with private outdoor space and floor to ceiling windows.

Bob and Dolores Hope’s “Dream Home” has hit the Palm Springs Market. Designed by Modernist Architect John Lautner, this 9 Bedroom, 9 Bath estate is 23,000 square feet overlooking the Coachella Valley and San Jacinto Mountains.

This is the largest private residence designed by Lautner who felt “The purpose of architecture is to create timeless, free, joyous spaces for all activities of life.” In this collaboration with the Hope’s, Lautner designed the perfect blend of concrete, steel and glass that compliments the neighboring mountains with its curving copper roof. Underneath is a grand courtyard in the center of the home, adding additional entertaining space to the estate which features two swimming pools, a tennis court and putting green. Completed in 1980, this extraordinary property is truly a “contemporary castle,” as Dolores described.

On Saturday, May 4^th at 12 PM join a guided ride tour through historic Park Slope which will highlight the new additions to New York’s bike infrastructure. The ride is appropriate for cyclists 12 and up, make sure to bring, or rent, your own bike and don’t forget your helmet. Points to note will be some of the areas new bike lanes, bike corrals and the CitiBike station, opening soon.(via bikenyc.org)

After coasting through the park, drop by The Dean Lofts at 816 and 818 Dean Street to check out these new rentals. Saturday, open house hours are from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM, Sunday from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM.

After lunch, cycle up Willoughby’s bike lane and check out our open house from 3:00 PM-5:00 PM at the Shelton, 775 Lafayette Avenue.

On Sunday, ride over to Prospect Park for the bi-monthly installment of the Food Truck Rally. Aside from grabbing a little bit of sun, grab some lunch from some of the city’s best mobile eats.

We’ll be hosting an open house at our Park Slope development, Park Union, at 910 Union St, from 12-4 on Sunday, so drop by on your route.

For the next 8 weeks architects and designers will speak and connect with the public on various topics surrounding the Hudson Yards project including: the evolution of parks on the West Side, the technical development and evolution of the new residential tower at Hudson Yards, how the partnership created to develop Hudson Yards will keep NYC globally competitive, and more. The Brooklyn Botanical Garden is celebrating Cherry Blossom Season with Sakura Matsuri, “A weekend celebrating traditional and contemporary Japanese culture.”  Click here for an event schedule, which includes Drumming, Manga, Kids’ Workshops, Flower Arranging and more. The festivities are on both Saturday, 4/27 and Sunday, 4/28.

On the other side of town in Riverdale, Wave Hill is celebrating Arbor Week. With events scheduled all week, there are plenty of informational workshops and tours to get involved in. One event to note is the Tree Giveaway, a partnership with MillionTreesNYC, happening on Sunday 4/28.  Families, individuals and community groups are invited to pick up a free tree for planting on private property.
